Since 2014, Italian graphic designer
GIUSEPPE PEPE
has been removing the heads of Instagrammers across the world as part of his digital art project, #LoosingMyMind
The selfie is the self-portrait of the digital age that is changing the way we see and think about ourselves and each other.
But what happens when we remove our faces from our photos?
How would we look without our heads?
Ibiza, Spain based designer Giuseppe Pepe presents us with this same question in his series of photo manipulations titled “Loosing My Mind”
 |
He describes it as a project of “anti-beauty,” going against our intrinsic desire to present our most beautiful self to the world.
The Idea of the Anti Selfie Project came about when Pepe saw a group of men using a mirror to reflect the sunshine, covering their faces whilst taking a selfie on the beach. ince posting his first digitally manipulated photo of himself without his head, Pepe’s project has gone viral, with users from all around the world submitting their own images for him to manipulate.
“Since the head is the primary part of our beauty, I decided to create a project that reflected the secondary [body] part instead,” explains Pepe, “to represent the beauty of the picture, but without the head.”
